Where to Spend a Perfect Saturday in Forest Park | RedKey Realty Leaders

If you haven't been to Forest Park lately, you're missing out. This massive 1,300-acre park near our St. Louis homes for sale is one of the largest in the country. Not only does it have enough attractions and amenities on its grounds to give Central Park a run for its money, but it's also far less crowded! 

Several of our team members visit this incredible spot at least once a month, and they say it never gets old. Join us for a fun Saturday at Forest Park and see if you'll fall in love with it as we have.  

5 Activities for an Unforgettable Saturday in Forest Park 

Play Some Sports

If you've got some friends or family members who are willing to play with you, Forest Park is a great place for casual sports games. They've got plenty of space for activities like ring toss and croquet, as well as: 

  • Tennis and racquetball courts 
  • Basketball courts 
  • Two golf courses 
  • Rugby courts
  • A cricket field
  • An archery range 

There's even an outdoor skating rink you can glide around on during the winter months, but you'll have to wait for the cooler weather to give that one a try.  

Browse the Bright Blossoms in the Jewel Box

The Jewel Box is a towering glass greenhouse with architecture that is just as breathtaking as the plants inside. Made from plate glass held up by a sturdy wood-and-iron frame, its Art Deco design and towering height make a big impression even from a distance. The glass-smooth ornamental pond just outside the entrance perfectly complements the building's angular silhouette.  

Stepping inside, you'll see: 

  • Tropical trees and leafy plants 
  • Seasonal flowers like lilies and azaleas  
  • Hanging baskets filled with trailing vines 

The Jewel Box is open from noon to 5:30 p.m.with a few short breaks due to staffing limitations. Tickets cost $1 per person to enter the building, but you can enjoy the pond and grounds outside for free.  

Enjoy Some Educational Entertainment at the St. Louis Science Center 

Address: 5050 Oakland Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110 

The St. Louis Science Center offers curious kids a way to explore scientific concepts in innovative real-world settings. This popular field trip destination hosts more than a dozen smaller attractions and exhibits, including:  

  • The Life Science Lab, a mixture of artifacts and interactive experiences designed to teach about biological  
  • The McDonnell Planetarium, a huge showroom with a state-of-the-art projection system to bring the cosmos to life 
  • GameXPloration, an interactive exhibit dedicated to the science behind board games, video games, and other recreational pursuits 

The center is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Entry is free, but some shows and exhibits cost extra.   

Meet the Animals at the Saint Louis Zoo

Animal lovers will be thrilled to visit the Saint Louis Zoo, a world-class menagerie with a prominent place near the front entrance of Forest Park. The facility boasts dozens of animal exhibits filled with everything from tiny poison dart frogs to majestic elephants and jaguars, plus: 

  • A miniature railroad that travels around the grounds 
  • Conservation Carousel, a merry-go-round with seats shaped like various endangered animal species 
  • A stingray pool 
  • A 4D theater 

They're also currently running a special event called Animals Aglow, a celebration of biodiversity and Chinese culture, created in partnership with the Chinese event company Tianyu Arts & Culture, Inc. Visit during the event to see gorgeous lantern sculptures of plants and animals.  

The zoo is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It opens again for the Animals Aglow event every Saturday evening from 6:30 to 10 p.m. until May 17th. You can visit for free during the day, but you'll pay $24.95 per person to visit during the event.

Dive Into the Past at the Missouri History Museum 

Address: 5700 Lindell Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63112 

The Missouri History Museum is a space dedicated to the many events, ideas, and people that shaped our state's past. They have three permanent exhibits:  

  • The 1904 World Fair, an exhibit on the groundbreaking event that took place right here in St. Louis more than 120 years ago 
  • St. Louis Sound Reprise, an examination of the city's distinctive musical stylings and the superstars who brought those local tunes to the world stage 
  • History Clubhouse, a children's exhibit where kids can recreate historical events from Missouri's past 

Their Yours Forever: Forest Park at 150 exhibit might be of special interest to you on your Saturday outing. It chronicles the development and expansion of the park over time, showing how it became the impressive multi-part attraction it is today.  

The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and is free to visit. They often host special guest speakers on Saturdays, so check their website for details if you're interested.
